Gold Coast to Birmingham - the BWB Commonwealth Games challenge

BWB has a long history with Birmingham. We’ve been providing multi-disciplinary engineering services in the city for over twenty years.

Over these years, we’ve worked on iconic regional landmarks like 1 Centenary Square, Arena Central, Resorts World, and the redevelopment of Pebble Mill. We have helped bring new and significant employment opportunities through schemes like Peddimore, and new homes at the Orion Building, Centenary Plaza and University Locks, alongside new communities like Port Loop.

That’s why we are looking forward to celebrating all that Birmingham has to offer when the Commonwealth Games come to the city in July.

We share the Vision and Mission of the 2022 Commonwealth Games to ‘make a world of difference for everyone throughout the West Midlands and beyond.’

Like the Commonwealth Games, we aim to:

Bring people together

‘These Games will embrace and champion the youth, diversity, humanity and pride of the region and the Commonwealth.’

At BWB, we celebrate what makes us different, knowing that doing so makes us a stronger, more cohesive and resilient team. This is reflected in us once again having been awarded the prestigious Investors in People Platinum status, making us one of only 150 organisations in the world to do so.

Improve health and wellbeing

‘Inspire, engage and connect communities and athletes to realise their full potential and live happier, healthier lives.’

The wellbeing of all our people is paramount to BWB. We work with organisations like EveryMind to highlight how we all need to care for our emotional and physical health. This combined with giving everyone the time and resources to allow them time to focus on learning and development, encourages our people to reach their full potential.

Help the region to grow and succeed

‘Drive sustainable growth and aspiration; creating opportunities through trade, investment, jobs and skills.’

It’s not just environmental sustainability at the heart of what we do. We work on projects that bring sustainable economic growth to the region, which, through investment and job creation, enhances the lives of many and fosters a culture of change.

Be a catalyst for change

‘Transform and strengthen local communities, working together to deliver new and improved homes, facilities and transport links.’

For over twenty years, we have helped shape Birmingham’s landscape, working with local businesses and communities to help bring sustainable homes, new places to work and play, and improved transportation to the region.

Put us on the global stage

‘Deliver an unforgettable, global Games in partnership, on time and on a budget to showcase the best of Birmingham, the West Midlands and the Commonwealth.’

Working in partnership with our clients and other professionals, we consistently aim to deliver world-beating projects of exceptional quality, on time and on budget.

Our Challenge to our people

To mark the occasion and welcome the Games to Birmingham, we have challenged our people to get together and get outside to walk, run or cycle the 10,366 miles from the home of the last Games on Australia’s Gold Coast to Birmingham.

Keep an eye out for postcards from our people to show how far we’ve got. Fingers crossed, we can rally the spirit of the Commonwealth Games to travel the distance as a team before 28 July!
