Vita Student Pebble Mill is a purpose-built student accommodation complex in Birmingham, designed for students attending the University of Birmingham and other nearby universities. The development offers 357 self-contained bedrooms alongside a range of high-quality amenities, including private study rooms, a coffee lounge, a gym, a movie room, and a landscaped courtyard and garden.

These facilities provide students with a well-rounded, comfortable living environment that supports both their academic and social needs. Situated just 10 minutes from Birmingham city centre and close to the popular student area of Selly Oak, Vita Pebble Mill offers convenient access for its residents.

Our Role

BWB served as long-term advisors for the VITA Pebble Mill project, providing a comprehensive range of services across several engineering disciplines. Our involvement began with ground investigations, during which we assessed site conditions and developed remediation strategies to ensure a stable foundation for development.

Flood risk expertise

Our Flood Risk team conducted a detailed flood risk assessment, identified potential risks, and developed a flood alleviation scheme to protect the development and surrounding areas.

The solution included a flood bypass tunnel, designed to divert excess water and reduce flood risks downstream. This innovative approach not only protected the student accommodation but also benefited over 100 nearby households that were previously at risk of flooding.

Design services

Additionally, we provided civil and structural engineering design services, ensuring that the building’s structure met the client’s requirements and incorporated architectural elements that complemented the design vision.

We collaborated closely with the architects to integrate modern design features, delivering a high-quality development that meets the aspirations of both the client and future occupants.
