Client: North East Lincolnshire Council Grimsby Town Centre regeneration is a long-term, heritage-led programme designed to revitalise the town’s core, transforming underused retail areas into a vibrant mixed-use destination. The initiative combines restoration of historic assets with new leisure, retail and public realm developments to create a more attractive and economically resilient town centre. The programme includes major investments such as the £50 million Freshney Place redevelopment, alongside improvements to public spaces, transport infrastructure and community facilities. The strategy is rooted in extensive engagement with local residents and businesses, ensuring that future development reflects community needs while strengthening the town’s identity and heritage. By integrating heritage conservation with modern placemaking, the regeneration aims to increase footfall, support local businesses and create a more diverse offer for residents and visitors. The vision is to reposition Grimsby as a thriving regional destination, delivering long-term economic growth while preserving the character and history that define the town. Services we provided Project, Cost & Commercial Management Ecology & Heritage Our Role BWB, through Deetu, delivered a comprehensive programme of digital engagement and consultation to support the regeneration strategy. Our role focused on ensuring that the vision for Grimsby town centre was shaped by meaningful input from the local community, businesses and stakeholders. Accessible consultation We developed an accessible digital engagement platform that communicated complex regeneration proposals in a clear and engaging way. This enabled users to explore plans, understand key interventions and provide informed feedback. The approach broadened participation and ensured that a diverse range of voices were captured throughout the consultation process. Archeological expertise For major redevelopment to deliver long-term value, it needs confidence in what lies beneath it. BWB’s Heritage specialists have been leading and coordinating the archaeological works required to support the scheme, ensuring the historic fabric of the area is properly understood and recorded as the redevelopment progresses.
