Client: Bowmer and Kirkland Ltd The Arc Cinema in Beeston, Nottingham, opened in May 2021 as part of the £50 million Beeston Square redevelopment. This modern cinema, built on a previously underutilised site, features eight state-of-the-art screens, with a total seating capacity of 700. Six of the screens are equipped with Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound and digital laser projection, while two premium 'Hypersense' auditoriums boast 4K laser projection and Dolby Atmos surround sound for an immersive viewing experience. The cinema's luxurious amenities include electric reclining seats and a high-spec café bar, making it a leisure hub designed to enhance Beeston's town centre. Our team developed the PAD foundation and structural design to support the cinema's steel frame, overcoming challenges posed by the area's ground conditions. Architectural vision We were also responsible for coordinating the fit-out of several retail units within the development, working closely with contractors and design teams to ensure all structural and design elements aligned with the architectural vision. Ground improvement works were necessary to provide a stable base for the cinema’s steel frame structure. Ground investigations Our work included ground improvement works to ensure stability and load-bearing capacity, enabling the development to proceed without delays. The ground conditions at the Beeston site were one of the primary challenges.
