Client: G F Tomlinson Building Ltd

The West Bridgford Medical Centre was designed to consolidate multiple GP surgeries into one modern facility, enhancing healthcare delivery for the local community. This £8 million new-build includes GP consulting rooms, treatment spaces, and support offices, with ample parking for patients and staff. The centre was created with patient care and accessibility in mind, providing a comprehensive and efficient healthcare environment.

As the population in the area grew, the facility expanded into two surgeries, Musters Medical Practice and Castle Healthcare Practice, both offering localised care with access to advanced medical equipment. By centralising healthcare services, the development has improved access, reduced patient waiting times, and enhanced the overall quality of care. The West Bridgford Medical Centre now serves as an essential healthcare hub for the community.

Our Role

WB played a pivotal role in ensuring the building's energy efficiency and sustainability. We developed an energy strategy incorporating renewable energy and thermal modelling to comply with Healthcare Technical Memorandum guidelines.

Innovative solutions

Our innovative design solutions included the use of brise soleil, a feature that deflects sunlight, reducing the need for excessive air conditioning while ensuring summertime temperatures remain comfortable.

Our ventilation strategy maximised natural airflow through operable windows and mechanical night purge, further contributing to the building’s efficiency.

Sustainable designs

Our engineering expertise allowed us to solve the challenge of heat generation in a medical environment. We designed sustainable, practical solutions that optimised the building’s overall energy efficiency without compromising patient comfort.

By integrating sustainable technologies and smart design choices, we helped create a building that meets the demands of modern healthcare while minimising its environmental impact.
