The Halifax Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), located at Broad Street Plaza, is an £8 million healthcare facility designed to enhance access to vital diagnostic services for the people of Calderdale. Opened in July 2024, the centre offers a range of outpatient diagnostic tests, including X-rays, ultrasounds, CT scans, and heart monitoring, in a modern, easily accessible environment.

The CDC is strategically located near the Halifax town centre, making it convenient for patients while reducing the need for trips to larger hospitals. Part of a broader national initiative to increase diagnostic testing capacity across the UK, the Halifax CDC is set to significantly reduce waiting times and streamline healthcare access for the local community.

Our Role

BWB provided comprehensive structural and civil engineering services for the Broad Street Development project. Our team was responsible for designing the mezzanine floor, which increased usable space and enabled the creation of additional healthcare service areas.

Functional design

The introduction of this mezzanine was critical in maximising the building’s potential, transforming what was once a single-floor facility into a more functional, multi-level healthcare space. One of the key features of our involvement was the design of the structural steelwork.

Drainage expertise

We also handled the drainage design, which included new connections for the kitchen and toilet facilities, ensuring the site met all modern requirements. drainage solutions played a vital role in supporting the building's new layout.

Structural surveys

As this was an existing building, previous structural surveys needed to be carefully reviewed. We had to strengthen certain areas of the building, especially where additional openings in the walls were required. Coordination and communication were key to overcoming these obstacles and ensuring the project remained on track.
