Developed by Mountpark, it plays a critical role in Amazon’s distribution network, offering enhanced fulfilment capabilities with close access to key transport links, including the A11 and A14. The facility features cutting-edge automation systems that streamline operations and improve efficiency, further solidifying Amazon’s reputation for fast and reliable deliveries across the UK. We delivered full ground investigations, noise and air quality assessments, and flood risk and drainage evaluations, ensuring that all environmental considerations were addressed early on. Development stage During the development stage, our civil and structural engineers worked closely with contractors to deliver the complex structural designs required for a building of this scale. Our proactive approach to highways and structural design, combined with our expertise in environmental assessments, contributed to the successful, timely delivery of the project, helping Amazon establish a new benchmark for logistics facilities in the UK. Stakeholder coordination Additionally, we managed stakeholder coordination and transportation planning, ensuring smooth access for the range of vehicles that service the site. Challenging topography The primary challenge was managing the site’s complex topography, which required innovative solutions such as the retaining wall along the M62. The project also needed to address potential impacts on local traffic flow from increased vehicular activity, which we resolved by strategically realigning public highways.
