BWB's Role BWB played a significant and multifaceted role in the development of the iPort Doncaster. Our comprehensive range of services and innovative solutions were instrumental in realising this ambitious multimodal logistics hub. Integrated design and engineering Our expertise in civil and structural engineering was pivotal in designing the state-of-the-art intermodal rail terminal. Working with Network Rail and other key stakeholders, we ensured that the rail terminal's infrastructure met the highest standards and requirements. This element was crucial for integrating various modes of transport, enhancing the functionality and efficiency of iPort. Building infrastructure and resilience In addition to the rail terminal, our role extended to the foundational and structural design of the site's buildings. Our detailed planning and superior engineering ensured that the structures were robust and tailored to withstand the demanding operations of a 24/7 logistics hub, guaranteeing long-term resilience and reliability. Sustainable and environmental design We were responsible for the external civil aspects of the project. This included designing highways, drainage systems, earthworks and tracks with a focus on minimising environmental impacts. Innovative transport solutions We developed a comprehensive Transport Assessment and Travel Plan. This collaborative effort ensured that the development met and exceeded transport and parking requirements, facilitating efficient and safe access for visitors and staff. Flood risk management and water strategy We completed an in-depth Flood Risk Assessment, developing a water strategy that effectively integrated Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems (SuDs) and attenuation features. Ground improvement and geotechnical expertise Our geotechnical investigation and ground improvement services laid the foundation for stable and durable infrastructure, which is crucial for the development of this scale. Onsite supervision and compliance Beyond design and planning, we played a vital role in overseeing onsite infrastructure works. Our hands-on involvement ensured the correct and compliant implementation of designs, maintaining the highest standards throughout the construction process.
