Silver haired, silver tonged lothario of BWB. At least one of these is true
BWB’s corporate busy body with fingers in lots of pies.

Why I decide to do what I do

Fate and beer ruined my teenage dreams of becoming an Egyptologist, and years of studying Law took the shine off a career at the bar (I never could pass one), thankfully I actually enjoy trying to bring a sense of order to the chaos that is the back office functions of a company and being at BWB gives me the opportunity to help shape a company.

My potted history

Oh where to begin… My aforementioned dreams of being the next Indiana Jones were crushed when I started falling asleep during my A-level exams, and subsequently I went on to study for my LLB via a fast track route.

Following my degree I choose to head straight to work rather than continue studying for my Bar exams or LPC, joining the Forestry Commission as a grandly titled Territorial Executive Officer in the summer 2000. Working within the Mechanical Engineering Services I helped manage the Forestry Commission’s fleet and equipment across England and Wales (everything ranging from £2m Harvesters that could walk on legs up steep hills to chainsaws). Friends declared that it was because I liked wearing checked lumberjack shirts, but that was just a handy coincidence.

In 2007 I decided to take on a new challenge and joined BWB Consulting at our Birmingham Office, little did I know that one of the biggest challenges ever was shortly to hit in 2008 with the global recession. Resulting in the need to improve our internal procedures and working practices, motivate staff and ensure our clients’ needs were met at a time when companies were shedding staff and the future was very uncertain.

Since 2007 I have slowly taken on (or acquired if you believe those who think I have megalomaniac tendencies) the management of our Quality, H&S, Environmental Management, Communications and ICT.

The best project I have ever worked on at BWB

On a professional basis?
• Seeing systems that I’ve introduced flourish and roll out across the company.
• Managed the certification of BWB to the ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
• Helped the company grow and take on new challenges.

On a personal level?
• Watched the Birmingham Office grow from 6 people, following the recession, to brilliant well-knit team of almost 40 people.
• Taught the Birmingham Office the mantra “If you can’t win it, steal it” at our annual football competition.
• Suddenly finding myself on a revolving dance floor with most of our Exec Board, some of whom were wearing afro wigs and Bootsy Collins glasses (you know who you were)

What I like to do in my spare time

I like to run, although at my age running no longer likes me, and I have broken bones and ruptured ligaments in pursuit of a quicker time.
Although I like to cook I could quite happily eat out at different restaurants every day, and like to try new things.

What I hope to be doing 5 years from now

5 Years? 5 weeks is far enough ahead from me.
