Why I decide to do what I do

Honestly, I am inspired by Dad for when he founded his own consultancy business, growing it to be a global leader in it service offering, reaching many successes and business accolades. Coupled with my enthusiasm in leadership and management. Therefore, a career in Project Management was an ideal avenue for me.

My potted history

Finished high school on a Wednesday and started an apprenticeship on the following Monday.
My initial years of the career was undertaken in IT support, where I completed my apprenticeship.
I then took the opportunity use my skills into a new direction as a Radio Technician, developing coverage maps for operators when planning infrastructure roll-outs of services such as 3G or local operators and blue light emergency services.

After a spell in the field, I took the opportunity place to be office based and design telecommunication sites for the UK operators infrastructure programmes. This later opened up an opportunity for me to move to a construction contractor who built telecommunications sites for UK operators and I managed several construction crews.

My next step was the career move which crafted my skills, it was my first position as a Project Manager at a consultancy in 2008, providing services to the Infrastructure sector (Rail, Rail Property, Highways, Civils Infrastructure, Gas, Telecommunications, Fire Engineering, Data Centres and Blue Light Emergency Services). Within this time, I developed Project and Programme Manager experiences capable of delivering projects of different scales, from medium sized up to major/complex projects.

In 2018, after leading and providing Project Management services within the consultancy, I took the role further, to develop other resources in Project Management within a service team and turning my career into management of a project management business, while maintaining Framework and Project Director roles on various contracts.

The best project I have ever worked on at BWB

I recently undertook the role of Project Manager for one our clients to deliver the development of a new site on the Manchester Ship Canal in Salford for use as an intermodal container port facility served directly by a new rail link and connected to road access.

Procured via an NEC3 ECC contract, I was the NEC ECC Project Manager for the works. The scope of the individual phases is generally as follows:

Phase 1 – Enabling Works
- Rail link design to Governance for Railway Investment Projects (GRIP) 3
- Port access road & drainage
- Salteye Brook diversion
- Utilities diversions

What I like to do in my spare time

Family time is vital, my lifeline, I look forward to plenty of family holidays with the sun shining down, lots of adventures and plenty of refreshments on hand!!
I always factor in time to shout at the TV while watching sports, mainly following Manchester United, Minnesota Vikings and the England Cricket teams.
I love getting outdoors as much as possible also, whether that’s walking, cycling or my main hobby fishing.
Who doesn’t like to party!!

What I hope to be doing 5 years from now

After winning the lottery.., and being based on Mars in a crater engineered villa with pool, I’ll be providing leadership to BWB to further enhance their excellence in the management of projects internationally.., intergalactic!??
