Any substantial works to controlled waters requires a WFD Assessment to demonstrate the overall water quality targets will not be hindered, BWB have extensive experience in carrying out these assessments. The Water Framework Directive (WFD) is a European Commission Directive intended to integrate river basin management for Europe. All controlled waters, including rivers, lakes, estuarine areas or artificial waters designated under the WFD have overall water quality targets to meet by 2015.
BWB has undertaken a number of flood alleviation schemes for both local authority and developer Clients. Through this work we have gained experience in preparing funding applications from Regional Flood & Coastal Committee Levy and DEFRA Flood & Coastal Resilience Partnership based funding process.
Partially driven from the growth of our hydraulic modelling specialism and our experience of working on urban or heavily degraded watercourses has emerged our capability of providing in-house appraisal and design of river restoration and wetland creation schemes. BWB has experience of working across both the private and public sector in supporting Clients by the provision of hydraulic modelling, concept and detailed design services to improve/naturalise watercourses or help create wetland habitat. Our Clients include developers, local authorities, parish councils and wildlife trusts. BWB is also a member of the River Restoration Centre.
