The project involved refurbishment, alterations and conversion of the former Magistrates Court, a Grade II listed building to provide a stunning office complex located on the south bank of the River Derwent at the heart of Derby's resurgent Cathedral Quarter.

The scheme has brought back to use 27,000 sq ft of mixed use office space, offering a range of accommodation varying from 80 sq ft - 1,800 sq ft, one third of which has been taken up by the local studies library. This refurbishment of such an iconic building is set to stimulate city-centre development and attract a diverse mix of new businesses to the city.

BWB were the proud Civil & Structural Engineers helping to bring such a prominent listed building back into operation.

Key Challenges

Installation of a new mezzanine floor within the former main courtroom in order to provide additional floor space to accommodate the Local Studies Library which relocated from their original location on Irongate, Derby.
