PROJECT DESCRIPTION

BWB Consulting was appointed by Wilson Bowden Developments to deliver multi-disciplinary engineering services for the Optimus Point distribution park at Glenfield in Leicestershire. The 65-acre scheme lies next to junction 21a of the M1 and will feature a range of industrial, warehouse and office buildings. It is hoped the project will facilitate economic growth in the region and see up to 2,300 jobs created over the next 10 years.

BWB was first appointed as Consulting Engineers in 2008 and since then our range of services has spanned our Environment, Transport & Infrastructure and Structures groups. Our services include Flood Risk Assessment, Topographical Surveying, Informed Masterplanning, Phase 1 and Phase 2 Site Investigations, Highways, Drainage and Earthworks Design, Geotechnical Design and Structural Design.

The majority of the Optimus Point development plots have now been completed. Notable occupiers include Boden, Mattel, DPD, Gearys Bakery, James Latham, Geodis and Sarstedt.

Work on the primary infrastructure began in 2014 including off-site highway improvement works and the first tranche of on-site access roads, drainage and services, with BWB appointed to supervise the works.

Our flood risk work included extensive modelling of numerous watercourses which ultimately led to agreed changes to the floodplain designation with the Environment Agency.

We worked closely with the Architect, Stephen George & Partners, to develop a masterplan which found a balance between the Client's desires and the engineering site constraints.
