BWB Consulting was commissioned by Buckingham Group to deliver civil engineering and infrastructure design services to enable the construction of a Costco distribution warehouse at Crick in Northamptonshire. The global retailer proposed the purpose-built 375,000 sq ft depot after purchasing a 60-acre site at Gazeley's G. Park development, adjacent to the M1 at junction 18.
The scheme involved a significant earthworks enabling project which required around 450,000 sq m of site won material being used for the earthworks balance to achieve the proposed enabling works level. Due to the topography of the existing site and proposed masterplan layout, the site required a significant retaining solution to match the ground level of the site's boundaries while acting as a screen to retain the area's scenic appearance. BWB's specialist team co-ordinated the design of a 70-degree retained earth solution with Tensar to ensure the 16.5m high slope was fit for purpose.
The distribution warehouse was completed in 2015 while the overall design of the site will allow the future construction of a second phase.
