PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The city of Nottingham saw a number of major long-term construction projects begin in 2013 including Nottingham Express Transit, Phase 2 and the dualling of the A453. This coincided with the closure of Nottingham railway station over the summer months which it was anticipated would cause significant disruption to journey times and public transport services, particularly on the western side of the city.

Nottingham City Council appointed BWB in the Spring of that year to inform their management meetings, provide co-ordination support and collate information that would identify and assess the singular and combined effects of the various construction works and activities.

As part of this commission, BWB consulted with the key stakeholders and prepared mitigation strategies such as rail replacement bus services to manage public transport journeys through the western side of the city for the duration of the construction projects.

Key Challenges

BWB prepared a master programme that combined the high level programmes of the various construction projects, overlaid with the key events and activities. This 'Combined Schemes Programme' was linked to a Geographical Information System which allows for easy interrogation of the information by location and date, thereby enabling potential areas of conflict to be identified and flagged for further investigation.
