The former Rossington Colliery site near Junction 3 of the M18 south of Doncaster is to be regenerated into a mixed-use development comprising approximately 1,200 homes when complete. In October 2013, an earthworks and remediation enabling works contract was awarded to facilitate the first phases of housing development.
BWB provided planning support services to help secure a successful planning determination and BWB are carrying out infrastructure design services, utilities advice, contract administration, site supervision and CDM Co-ordinator services for Harworth Estates.
Full earthworks specifications were prepared by BWB and full-time earthworks supervision by qualified geotechnical staff was provided. We undertook regular consultation with NHBC, who provided LQE certification, and on completion we prepared fully warrantied earthworks validation reports.
The former colliery site poses several potential geotechnical and ground contamination risks which were carefully managed by the Contractor and BWB's site supervisory staff in accordance with BWB's Earthworks Specification and Remediation Strategy to ensure that the site was suitable for future housing development. Other contractors were also working in close vicinity to the site undertaking coal extraction from the adjacent spoil heap and constructing the proposed FARRRS road scheme. This was carefully managed, with BWB's assistance, through regular CDM co-ordination meetings.
