"Project Green" was the aspirational title adopted for this £30m scheme to provide energy giant E.ON UK with a new regional HQ for circa 1000 staff in Nottingham. BWB Consulting was appointed to provide desk study and engineering feasibility advice on the proposal to demolish the existing building, located on a relatively small and heavily constrained site, and to construct a 105,000 sq.ft. highly energy efficient nine storey tower with two levels of basement parking.
BWB's initial advisory role in this flagship project included providing project feasibility and abnormal development cost advice together with planning support documentation. These ranged from geo-environmental investigations and recommendations, through to agreeing a sustainable transport and access strategy, including the incorporation of additional car parking within a heavily constrained site demise.
Significant technical issues and challenges were subsequently resolved at design stage, including complex party wall constraints, retention of a District Heating Main within the redeveloped site, and design of the basement sub-structure to a layout that avoids impacting on a listed cave system beneath the site.
Detailed structural design was undertaken using REVIT Building Information Modelling (BIM) software that enabled the Client's professional team to design a BREEAM Excellent and EPC A-rated building that has become Nottingham's greenest office development project.
