PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The demolition of two existing building at Skys headquarters, to enable the construction of one green building. Careys were employed to do the demolition and the enabling works. The enabling works contained demolition, utility diversion and refurbishment of the existing access road.

BWB provided civils, structural, geotechnical and value engineering services. This includes the detailed levels, drainage and external works design as well as S278 works, RC detailing for substructures, temporary works design including hoarding foundations and piling mat. BWB were Careys chosen designer and therefore joined the project at Construction stage.

BWB worked to tight timescales to deliver the project in 3 months. The Tender designer were retained on the Client side and were to approve any design changes including a number of value engineering options we proposed.

We were able to present many value engineering options for the drainage and levels of the access road. We were able to reduce the amount of drainage runs required by utilising kerb drains. By adding a camber to the road, we reduced the amount of full depth re-construction required over the existing access road. By doing so, we removed the need for steel plate protection over a length of approx. 150m of existing utilities at a depth of 1.5m which was initially proposed by the Tender Designer.
