BWB undertook a review and appraisal on the performance of the Wastewater Treatment Works serving Heywood Distribution Centre.
BWB provided advice and design on the existing operation, proposed refurbishment, along with capacity and operational improvements. The work included the provision of a new inlet screening arrangement, refurbishment of dosing syphon, replacement of filter media and new filter arms and converting the humus tank into an upward flow clarifier. The sludge drying beds were also repaired and improved.
BWB supervised the contractor undertaking the works and provision of a maintenance schedule for the ongoing upkeep of the WwTW.
The WwTW was constructed approx 60 years ago and remote from the main site and as such had fallen into disrepair. It was also hydraulically undersized for present day volumes from site and industrial processes on the main site were causing problems with WwTW operations and maintenance.
Effluent quality needed to be brought back within consent parameters and avoid water quality issues in the receiving watercourse and downstream fishery.
