The secondary school comprises a new 5 storey, brick clad educational facility in the grounds of an existing primary school in London. The building includes an adjoining suspended sports hall at second floor, which allows for a sheltered multi-use area below. There is also an activity studio at third floor of the main building.
The steel framed with precast concrete floor structure was closely co-ordinated with the building services, and BIM models were produced of the building to aid this process and avoid clashes. Acoustic considerations meant that the sports hall and activity studio were acoustically isolated from the surrounding structure.
Tight constraints on the footprint of the building meant that the sports hall and activity studio were suspended. The acoustic isolation of the activity studio and sports hall was achieved by close co-ordination with the acoustic engineer and materials specialist, to develop resilient bearings required to the structure to minimise transmission of noise and vibration issues.
