Saracens School is a new-build, three storey education building with a separate sports block on a brownfield site in Colindale, London.
This large imposing school comprises of two wings arranged in an L shape with a an impressive, full height, entrance and circulation atrium at the heel with a feature stair. The unusual and aspiration arrangement was achieved with a steel frame and prestressed floor units.
To aid the service distribution around the building the structural beams which span the corridor are located in the depth of the precast floor and CHS ties have been utilised parallel to the precast span direction to tie the columns together and minimise any potential clashes of services into the classrooms.
Allowing the structural solution of exposed prestressed floor units to aid the services solution by providing thermal mass.
Thanks to clever use of the available space and the construction of brand new 3 storey school building, pupils can now enjoy 21st century technology in large airy classrooms and all-weather outdoor sports facilities.
