BWB's Water Service was appointed to undertake a study of the historically and recently flooded properties at Wales Street in the village of King's Sutton near Banbury. The project involved co-ordinating with the council, residents, and Environment Agency to compile all available data on the historic flood events, and commission new surveys of the local watercourses and properties. An existing hydraulic model of the River Cherwell was extended to include the watercourses through King's Sutton. The model was calibrated against the collated flood data and used to test a series of flood alleviation solutions in consultation with the stakeholders.
A preferred solution was identified which would significantly reduce flood risk, and an economic appraisal of its potential benefits was undertaken. The results of which were presented to the EA within a Project Appraisal Report and at a Project Appraisal Board in order to apply for funding for the scheme.
