BWB Trent Torpedos in action

09 August 2017

BWB Trent Torpedoes saw off all the competition to win the Corporate Dragon Boat Challenge at the Nottingham Riverside Festival on Sunday. Our plucky paddlers donned colourful crayon fancy dress outfits and raced teams from dozens of local businesses over a 200m course on the River Trent.

The ten-strong crew comprised Lauren Padmore, Dan Hodgkinson, Maia Stride, Ian Buxton, Josh Dickerson, Peter Goodyear, Jo Green, Kris James, Jay Moriarty and Damian Eddyshaw with drummer Imogen Wort ensuring their strokes kept in time and all focus was kept on their own boat. Team BWB won their three heats and semi-final convincingly, although the grand final was a real nail biter with our crew coming from behind to snatch a last-minute victory.

The event raised funds for Rainbow’s Children’s Hospice in Loughborough, with our crew raising almost £1,000 for the charity through sponsorship.

Crew manager Lauren Padmore, who was presented with the winner’s trophy, said: “I’m so proud and relieved to have regained the Champions Trophy for BWB. Sunday was such a great fun day and I would like to thank all the crew, our supporters and our sponsors for raising such a large amount of money for such a worthy charity. The supporters cheering us on from the banks of the river all day really made the day for us!’’
