BWB appointed to Nexus Switch and Crossing renewals project
15 July 2021
Working alongside Tyne and Wear transportation operator Nexus, BWB are involved in an important project to renew expired Switch and Crossing units with accompanying track alignment designs.
Commencing July 2020, initial Topographical surveys are currently underway, including laser scanning of the Prudhoe Street tunnels, and condition assessment of the tunnel rings. As part of the project, Nexus identified three sites that required the replacement of existing Switches and Crossings, with BWB providing alignment and detailed design to enable the client to go to tender for the supply and installation of the Switches and Crossings.
Once the Topographical surveys are complete, the BWB team will provide the additional track alignment designs, and detailed Switch and Crossing drawings, Overhead Line Electrification design and clearance analysis.
In line with Nexus’ ambition to make public transport great for our environment, economy and communities, this significant project will directly benefit the many Tyne and Wear communities who rely on the local public transportation system on a daily basis.
