BWB Donor Day
Save Lives, Give Blood
17 June 2014
Donated blood is not just for emergencies, it can be a lifeline for many people needing long-term treatments.
For the NHS Blood & Transplant health authority (NHSBT), maintaining a regular supply of blood is not easy. As blood components have a short shelf life, predicting demand can be difficult, so by giving blood regularly, every donor is contributing to saving lives!
BWB Consulting are keen to promote the principal of giving blood and clearly this is a personal choice, but we offer support and coordination to all our employees who wish to do so.
We recently arranged a “Donor Day” for our Nottingham office, which took place on Friday 6th June. It was so easy to facilitate with the support of the NHSBT and The Nottingham Donor Centre.
Promotional material was supplied and employees merely had to register on-line and book a time. We provided the opportunity for employees to book with another colleague to offer mutual support and the response was amazing.
Many of us have “been meaning to give blood but never got round to it”. It takes up to 15 minutes to donate 1 pint of blood, which could save 3 people’s lives.
The success of our first Donor Day contributed 10 pints of blood and some of our colleagues were kind enough to share their thoughts.
“Giving blood was a very strange experience with mixed feelings, I felt empowered yet noble” - Erika Weatherall, Junior Administrator
“My daughter and my sister both needed transfusion after a difficult birth so I know it’s worthwhile. However I am terrified as I hate needles.” - Jackie Dexter, Credit Controller
“Terrified! But I appreciate it is the right thing to do and could in fact save somebodies life in the future” - Paul Collins, Executive Board Director
BWB Consulting will be holding a regular Donor Day in all our offices and have already made plans for another in Nottingham in September.
