Odour Survey Season is Upon Us
27 May 2022
With us now being in throws of odour survey season, the BWB Air Quality team has been out and about on sites across the UK, as well as taking the opportunity to provide on the job training to fellow colleagues.
Odour assessments are typically undertaken to assess the impact of odour emissions upon a proposed development site, helping clients design their development to minimise the impact of existing odour sources, such as sewage works, on future occupiers of the development.
This month, our air quality consultant Joe Hague has been onsite having training at sites near to existing sewage works and a brewery.
Joe has also been working to develop an odour survey app for the team which will allow us to efficiently and accurately record our survey results while on site and share real time data with our colleagues in the office allowing us to quickly provide results/advice to our clients.
'It has been great to get out of the office and enjoy the sun even if it has exposed me to the distinct smell of sewage!' says Joe.
'I’ve enjoyed learning a new skill in odour surveying given I never thought I’d have to use my nose in my professional career! Additionally, it was great to be given the opportunity to develop our odour survey app and I look forward to teaching the rest of our team to utilise it.'
Air Quality Service Manage Claire Meddings said ''It is great to be able to provide onsite training opportunities to our team members and to be able to give them the opportunity to do something a little different and develop new tools to assist with our work. Joe’s contribution to the development of our survey app will have a lasting benefit to the whole team.'
