Trinity Square

Location: Nottingham

BWB´s involvement in this exciting urban regeneration project dates to the very earliest stages of its evolution.

Developers Helical Retail and Overton Developments, in partnership with Monk Estates, envisaged the amalgamation of two city blocks to extend the city centre core northwards. The extension will create new high quality retail space, to strengthen Nottingham´s position as a national ´top 5´ retail destination. It will also provide student accommodation for the adjacent University together with complementary leisure uses centred around Trinity Square.

BWB´s role in delivering the vision was key. To bring the two blocks together with optimum effect required significant changes to the City Council´s approved plans to alter the highway network around the sites. BWB successfully negotiated this and the revised City Council plans will create a high quality and largely traffic free environment on the critical frontages of the two new blocks of buildings.

BWB have provided consultancy support throughout the planning process, including preparation of the Transport Assessment essential to the planning application. This proved the case for BWB´s alterations to the City Council´s government funded and approved Turning Point highway scheme.

BWB are retained as the civil and structural engineer for the project. Key design challenges have included safe demolition of existing structures, design for service basements adjacent to live city centre streets, multi-storey car parking above the retail units and the transfer of ´off-grid´ loads from the residential development above the car park, through the underlying structure.
