Birmingham consultants strengthened by new arrivals

City based engineering consultancy BWB has strengthened its Birmingham office with the introduction of aWater Engineering capability to complement the growing Highways and Infrastructure team. Dave Hollingsworth will join as Business Unit Director together with engineer Jon Heath. This is the second stage of growth after appointing Andy Hewitt as Business Unit Manager late last year.

The additional technical expertise will make a valuable addition to the office´s Civil Engineering team and sets it apart from local competitors by offering a truly multi-disciplinary service. The teams aim is to expand and strengthen the services offered at the Birmingham office, doubling in size over the next 12 months.

Director of BWB´s Birmingham office, said: ´This is great progress for the Birmingham office, which as we approach our fifth anniversary in the city, will serve to strengthen and grow our business. It has been a long term aim to develop the Civil Engineering capability within the office to compliment the already highly successful Structural Engineering team. We shall now be concentrating on establishing key targets and recruiting additional professional team members. We are hoping to concentrate on Highways and Infrastructure issues, which will enable us to engage with developers at the earliest possible stage of the development process.´

Dave Hollingsworth, who joined BWB in August 2000, has extensive experience in both the public and private sectors. He initially worked in the Nottingham based Highways and Infrastructure team undertaking general civil engineering work, before setting up the Water team in response to planning policy guidance PPG25 and growing a second civil engineering team in Nottingham.

He said: ´This is an exciting challenge and I am relishing the opportunity to take our team into the west midlands marketplace. BWB´s client focus has led to great success in the East Midlands and I am sure that this will be repeated in the West Midlands as our profile is raised and people get to know us and what we can do.´

´My intention is to make a concerted effort to show people the benefits that we can bring to the front end of a project, providing pre-planning engineering services as well as civil engineering design services and flood risk management.´

Supporting Dave Hollingsworth are Jon Heath, an engineer with a strong track record in design of highways and drainage infrastructure, earthworks and flood risk assessment and Business Unit Manager Andy Hewitt.

Jon Heath has worked on a number of major local projects, most recently undertaking the detailed design of major on-site infrastructure andearthworks at Solihull Business Park for Wilson Bowden Developments. Andy has worked extensively in the west midlands on a broad range of civil engineering projects.

Dave added: ´Much of our work begins at pre-planning stage for land purchase and helps guide development masterplanning through the planning system. With regards to detailed design, we provide comprehensive infrastructure design for new development involving roads, sewers, earthworks and general infrastructure. There are a series of interesting jobs coming up and I can´t wait to get started.´

The team are involved on a number of Birmingham based projects including the forthcoming Thomas Walker building mixed use development just off St. Paul´s Square. Other projects include Keresley Park, the major redevelopment of a business park on the former Coventry Colliery site; the development of a retail park in Bristol for client, J.J.Gallagher and a 1.1 million sq ft development for Pro-Logis in Wellingborough.

Dave joins the Birmingham office following recent success on BWB´s project with IKEA to design and build their largest UK store at Edmonton in London (28,500 sq m). Constructed in record time, the project was completed and open for business in just 35 weeks. The engineering firm were involved with the £33 million project throughout, providing expertise to deal with pre-acquisition advice on flood risk, budget costings, ground investigation, remediation strategy and expert witness services to the planning inquiry. This was followed by full detailed civil and structural engineering design of the project.
