The Merchants Corner development comprises a 4 storey structure housing 24 Luxury apartments including a number of loft and duplex apartments to the upper floors.
The structure comprised predominantly load bearing masonry with a more complex section of the building turning the corner between Merchant Street and Markeaton Street constructed using a steel frame to enable significant quantities of glazing to be used in the elevations. The foundations were piled with suspended reinforced concrete ground beams.
Through a quantitative risk assessment BWB were able to reduce the quantity of contaminated soils that were necessary to remove from the site.
BWB undertook a detailed drainage study and with the benefit of this were able to negotiate discharge from the site without the need for any surface water attenuation.
The site is located near Derby City Centre and the site is surrounded by properties under different ownership that where within close proximity to the development. BWB acted as the party wall surveyor on the project issuing notices and awards to adjoining properties and undertaking surveys of the adjoining properties.
