The Hicking Building represents the flagship development for the Southside regeneration of Nottingham City Centre.
First conceived early 2000, the development consists of the renovation of 4 listed iron framed textile mills to provide 240 one and two bed apartments.
The large number of apartments could only be achieved by the addition of further stories to the existing iron framed 19th century mill buildings. BWB Consulting was influential in providing the structural solution to make this challenging task possible.
In addition to the renovation of the existing structures a further 7 storey reinforced concrete framed block was designed to the rear of the development together with a complex series of interlocking suspended slabs and ramps to form 180 covered secure parking spaces.
Diligent management of local authority´s such as Pollution Control and the Environment Agency were key to ensure that complex traffic, environmental and highways planning issues were identified and interfaced with key construction dates to ensure a smooth progression of all site activities.
The project was undertaken on a Design and Build contract with Laing O´Rourke over a 130 week build programme.
