Graduates and Students

From Work Experience to a Career in Consultancy

We are committed to inspiring people to take up a career in engineering and environmental consultancy, and offer work experience placements.

Some of our work experience placements have returned on a number of occasions and progressed to study full time at university, supported financially with a bursary and the opportunity to do vacation work with us.

We firmly believe in the benefits of long term investment to develop future talent. Our aim is to employ those people we support through their further education.

Work Experience

Week long placements give you an insight into all the specialist disciplines our company is able to provide to our Clients.

You spend a day in our Environmental, Traffic, Structures, Infrastructure and Water teams. We can also include Business Support experience in IT, HR, Accounts and Administration if you wish to broaden your experience beyond engineering.

You have a Mentor in each team to make sure you enjoy yourself and get the most out of your brief stay with us!

"I am halfway through my A-levels, rapidly approaching the time to decide on which university courses to apply for, and was after a taste of what engineering entailed. I am experiencing the various departments, spending a day in each, shadowing and discussing the various disciplines with the teams. BWB have given me a great opportunity to decide my future career and which degree to study . "

Summer Placements

We offer paid holiday work to people who come to us for work experience and continue to study Engineering or related specialist subjects.

As part of our Graduate Recruitment strategy we offer summer placements during your third year, which we hope will lead to employment the following summer. This placement will be with one of our discipline based business units. You will have a Mentor to help you settle in and plan your placement.

A number of our Summer Placement undergraduates come back to work with us, here’s a typical quote from one of them:

"The summer placement has given me a great insight into the company and it has encouraged me to apply for a permanent position after graduation. "

Graduate Training

All Graduates embark upon our three year programme.

  • A personalized development plan.
  • Train under agreement for ICE or IstructE mentored by Bryan Madge Associates.

A typical development plan would look like:

  • Focus on Settling into BWB life, Technical and I.T. skills and multi- disciplinary awareness in your first year.
  • Moving towards project co-ordination and communication skills and client liaison in your second year.
  • Third year will bring in People Management.
"One of the best features of BWB for a Graduate Engineer, along with providing exceptional hands on experience, is that it employs an external consultant who oversees the personal and professional development of its Graduates. This has enabled me to guide my development at my own pace, and gives the added advantage of having an experienced engineer who can ensure the company are putting as much effort into your training needs as you are. "

You can join us at any age from age 16 and have a great chance to gain work experience and study at the same time.

We sponsor your further education right through to degree level if you have the desire and ability:

"BWB are a great employer, some of the benefits of working for BWB include getting paid for a job you enjoy and being paid to learn; you don´t have to pay any of the college costs yourself."
