The Galleries of Justice

Location: Nottingham

BWB were appointed by the Lace Market Heritage Trust to provide structural engineering services for the conversion of this Grade II building into the NCCL (National Centre for Citizenship and the Law) Galleries of Justice which is operated by the Museum of Law Trust.

Previously, known as the Shire Hall, it was necessary to survey and understand the nature and construction of the building. This included probing the underlying sandstone which was known to contain a number of caves and voids. Completion of this investigative work enabled us to advise the Client and Architect on the feasibility of the proposed alterations.

Working closely with the Conservation Officer, traditional materials and techniques were used to carry out the works.
