BWB Consulting were employed as the Civil and Structural Engineers in the re-development of a former light industrial site in Sheffield.
The proposed development consisted of a 1160 bedroom student accommodation village complex, with associated retail and common room space.
The accommodation is divided in to four main blocks which range in height from three to six storeys.
Three of the blocks wrap around an internal courtyard space, providing a communal village space for the users
The bedrooms, studios and kitchens are constructed from modular units erected adjacent in-situ steel stair and lift cores.
Steel podium structures support modular construction above open retail or common space below. The modules and steel frames are supported on piled foundations and a combination of in-situ and precast pile caps.
