Design of Flood Mitigation Measures

duck

If a site is at risk of flooding, or if its development can have an effect on flooding elsewhere, mitigation measures may be available that can make the site developable without increasing the flood risk to others.

These can include one or more of the following:

  • raising floor levels
  • providing floodplain compensation
  • balancing surface water runoff and/or utilising SUDS
  • flood warning registry and emergency planning
  • flood resistant construction

BWB´s Flood Risk and Drainage Team have extensive experience in devising and promoting practical and cost effective flood mitigation measures. A recent study for a site at Hemsworth provides an example of how such mitigation measures have been applied to a development scheme.
