Experían Embankment House

Location: Nottingham

BWB were appointed by Wilson Bowden Developments to provide environmental, geo-technical, civil and structural engineering design services for 190,000ft² of high quality office accommodation in four phases.

The site previously accommodated the Wilford Power Station. Consequently, contamination, land gas and difficult ground conditions all had to be addressed at design stage.

Phases 1, 2 and 3 were constructed on piled foundations with suspended ground floors incorporating passive gas protection measures.

Phase 4 was constructed partly over a deep filled basement, the contents of which were grouted under controlled conditions to receive a thick stiff raft foundation. The remainder of this Phase was constructed on piled foundations. Again, passive gas protection measures were included.

Super-structures for all Phases consisted of structural steel frames supporting pre-cast concrete floors with masonry cladding.
