This three storey building incorporates the Students Union bar and entertainment facilities for De Montfort University, offices and dance studios, conference facilities, retail space and a food hall in a landmark building close to the heart of the DMU campus in Leicester city centre.
The project redeveloped an inner city site previously occupied by housing and textile workshops.
A traditional mass concrete foundation solution supports a structure comprising of a steelwork frame utilising composite ‘Fabsec’ cellular floor beams to provide the necessary stiffness for the dynamic load effects and to provide circulation zones for the services.
Careful attention was given to providing large, column free open spaces to accommodate the universities needs.
