BWB were appointed by Wilson Bowden Developments to provide environmental, geo-technical, civil and structural engineering solutions for this unique mixed use development in the centre of Nottingham. The project included a multiplex cinema, nightclub, health and fitness club, restaurants, bars and servicing facilities.
A feature of this development was the construction of a deep basement for the entire area of the site immediately adjacent to surrounding public highway. Whilst the excavation was mostly undertaken in sandstone, it was nevertheless necessary to provide temporary support works so that new reinforced concrete sub-structure could be safely constructed up to ground level.
The super-structure consisted of a four-storey steelwork frame with concrete composite floors and clad with various high quality materials. Acoustics and vibration required careful consideration as did the roof-mounted plant supports.
