Location: Derby

BWB were appointed by the Client, Roxdan Developments for a Design and Build Contrac to provide a structural service for a new sresidential development in Derby.

The project consisted of the refurbishment of an existing brewery building and a four story new build.

The Brewery building was of loadbearing masonry perimeter walls with a combination of cast iron internal columns supporting both steel beams at the lower levels and timber posts at the upper levels. The roof was of a traditional construction and provided two floors within the roof space.

At one end of the building the old 3 storey silo structure was converted to further apartments by the introduction of a new steel frame threaded through the existing floors at lower level which also had to be supported off new foundations within the basement.

The new build block, which was taken over by Derwent Housing Association as part of the social housing required for the scheme by the planners, was a traditional loadbearing masonry structure with precast concrete plank floors and a mono pitch roof.
