GEC Alstom

Location: Sheffield

BWB have been retained by Liberty Mercian Developments to assist them in developing a scheme aimed at divesting land at the GEC ALSTOM transformer site in Stafford for subsequent re-development as a retail and residential mixed use-scheme.

The proposed scheme comprises 100,000 sq ft retail terrace with B&Q as anchor tenant, associated fast food and public house and 300 unit residential scheme.

Our Geo-Environmental division have undertaken significant intrusive investigations on the site to establish the extent of contamination caused by previous industrial usage of the site. The team have subsequently negotiated with the Environment Agency and Environmental Health Officers to establish required criteria for any subsequent remediation. This information has then been used by the Civil Structural Division to prepare an earthworks strategy. The strategy pulls together the requirements of the remediation works into the overall need to create suitable development plateaux for the proposed buildings thus providing the client with the most economical solution and a fully integrated design process.

BWB Civils team have also prepared and agreed significant on/off site Section 278 highway works to re-route the existing River Way traffic through the development thereby improving traffic movement through the main A38/Riverway Junction.
